Set on a private 2-hectare estate surrounded by ancient olive groves, this unique 240 m² villa offers an exceptional combination of privacy, nature, history and modern luxury. The entire villa, garden, terraces, pool and Jacuzzi are exclusively yours — there are no other guests and no neighboring houses nearby.

Located in the hills above Dolceacqua, Liguria, close to the French border, Castello Mandrea is just 8 minutes by car from the medieval village of Dolceacqua, 18 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches and approximately 40 minutes from both San Remo and Monte Carlo.

The villa was newly built in 2022, incorporating stones from the ancient ruins found on the property, allowing the contemporary architecture to blend naturally into its historic surroundings.

Accessed through a single private gate, Castello Mandrea offers an exceptional level of seclusion.

The villa is surrounded by ancient olive trees, with no roads or disturbing neighbours nearby. The nearest neighbours are approximately 500 metres away.

Once you arrive, the feeling is less like staying in a holiday villa and more like having your own private estate in the hills of Liguria.

THE POOL & JACUZZI

The outdoor area is designed entirely for relaxation.

The heated swimming pool is available from April to October and features a counter-current swimming system and massage jets.

The heated jacuzzi, maintained at approximately 36°C or above, is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with massage jets and bubbles.

An outdoor shower beneath the olive trees completes the experience.

THE VIEW

One of Castello Mandrea’s greatest features is its extraordinary position.

From the villa and terraces, you enjoy a magnificent panoramic view over Dolceacqua and its famous Doria Castle, extending across the Mediterranean Alps towards Mount Toraggio.

Dolceacqua is famous for its medieval streets, the imposing Doria Castle and its beautiful historic stone bridge, which was painted by Claude Monet in 1884.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

A car is essential.

The final approach is via a narrow forest road, with some partially unpaved sections. Although the road may feel adventurous, the villa can be reached with normal vehicles; an Audi TT, for example, has accessed the property.

Private parking for up to four cars is available.

Pets are not permitted.

Two cats live on the property but do not enter the house.

For the comfort and safety of all guests, the villa is suitable for guests aged 12 years and over.

Dolceacqua

The historic village of Dolceacqua is dominated by the magnificent Doria Castle and is famous for its medieval streets and picturesque stone bridge, painted by Claude Monet in 1884.

Pinacoteca Giovanni Morscio

A museum dedicated to local painter Giovanni Morscio and other 20th-century Italian and French artists.

Nervia Valley

The surrounding valley is ideal for hiking, nature walks and discovering the villages and landscapes of Liguria.

Terre Bianche & Local Wine

The area is famous for Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC, as well as excellent white wines. Wine tastings can be arranged for guests.

Local Events

During the summer, Dolceacqua hosts various festivals and celebrations, including events around Ferragosto in mid-August.

THE LAND & ITS HISTORY

Castello Mandrea stands on a remarkable 20,000 m² estate covered with ancient Taggiasca olive trees.

Some of these trees have a history stretching back centuries, and the property contains approximately 5,200 m² of traditional “Mure Secchi” — historic dry-stone walls built without cement.

The property remained untouched for more than 20 years, allowing the soil and olive trees to remain free from chemical treatments.

Today, we continue this tradition by producing our own 100% organic Taggiasca extra virgin olive oil.

CASTELLO MANDREA ORGANIC OLIVE OIL

Our Taggiasca olive oil is produced from olives harvested on the property between November and January.

The olives are taken to the olive mill in Dolceacqua on the day of harvesting, where the oil is produced using traditional methods.

Our organic extra virgin olive oil was tested at the Imperia Laboratories with an exceptionally low acidity of 0.19%, compared with the maximum permitted level of 2%.

OUR MISSION

Our aim is not simply to offer a holiday villa, but to preserve and share a unique part of the Nervia Valley — its olive trees, dry-stone walls, landscape and traditions.

The historic dry-stone walls, built by hand centuries ago, are an important part of the cultural heritage of the property. We are committed to preserving and maintaining them for future generations.
